2024 - Week 48

Arts & Crafts

After the condo inspection was over, my plan was to get the top of the shelf painted over the weekend. I didn't know if I would get anywhere near sealing it, but I thought I could at least get the paint done. I was exhausted from everything, so I decided not to be harsh on myself if I didn't get any coats done. I hadn't been sleeping well in the days leading up to the inspection, so I figured rest might be in order. And that's how things went. Hopefully, next week will be more productive on this project.

Decluttering & Minimalism

This week's focus was on being ready for the condo inspection. The first thing I did was clean my tub. I was looking forward to pampering myself with a hot bath in epsom salts on the weekend. More likely, this would be early the following week given all my weekend plans.

So much cleaning except for the areas displaced by the shelf project. That was mostly my living room. I hoped that wouldn't cause a problem, but there was nothing I could do about it. Tiny Condo has limited space and things that belong in my reading/music room are in my living room while I finish my DIY project.

Someday, I'd like to live somewhere else. Condos are good in some ways, but they're practically like apartments in a lot of ways with inspections, disruptions, and limited privacy. At least I can decorate how I want inside. It's not much, but it's more than nothing. But tenants actually have more protections than condo owners do in a lot of ways. I suppose it's a trade off. I pay less for my condo than I would in rent.

I got 3 hours of sleep the evening before the inspection. It went OK and I lost sleep for nothing. I knew that was probably the case, but my brain has always done this before something stressful. The first day of anything too like school, a new job, etc. Every possible what-if-bad-thing-happens scenario runs through my head. I read, get up and do something else, journal, etc, but nothing stops it.

Gaming & Streaming

I didn't set out with formal gaming plans this week. I decided that any informal gaming would depend on the condo stuff getting done. I really want to get back to streaming Cyberpunk 2077. My original run through was during the launch glitches and I want to experience the game without those. I had started it before taking time off for the summer. I was feeling overwhelmed with everything in life though and with all the physio and the tongue therapy, something had to go.

Goal Setting & Tracking

This month's Music Oracle is:

Dolly is one of the few country singers I like. She's also an amazing human being. An LGBTQ+ ally who has done so much for improving literacy among many other achievements. My mom was a huge fan.

I've been thinking a lot about my day-to-day lately. There have been numerous times I've thought about doing something else for a day job. Recently, I decided that I want to pursue certification in my field rather than change tracks.

I also want to spend more time on druidry as I feel drawn to it repeatedly.

Those are two of the things I want to work on more in 2025. As the year is coming to a close, I start thinking about next year's goals. Writing, spirituality, career, music, fitness, and a partner are all the things I want to level up on in 2025. Now, I don't expect that I will achieve everything in one year. Some of these things take years to accomplish. Having targets in mind helps me achieve more in a year than I would otherwise.

Lifestyle & Sports

With the condo cleaning, not being fully recovered from last week, and freezing rain, I decided that the Adult Learn to Curl curling was not for me. Yeah, the name changed from last season. I'm waiting on the results of the xrays anyway.

The first snow happened on Tuesday, but the ground was too warm for it to stay.

This week held the start of the new season of PWHL. I was off to a bar in the Byward Market to watch with a bunch of other women. The game was wild. Maschmeyer lost her stick at one point and was given a stick by one of the defensive players, who then tried their best to help with no stick. It was a tense time as Montreal circled like birds of prey. Monster Masch managed to hold them at bay. The game was tied through the third, first OT, and the first round of shootout. It was so amazing. In the end, Ottawa gave up a point to Captain Clutch, Marie-Philip Poulin. At least we lost to the best player around.

I was happy to see that New York beat Minnesota. New York was at the bottom of the league last season. I hope they dominate the American side this season.

Movies & Television

I started watching Santa Clarita Diet but I'm not that into it. Perhaps it's the constant vomit scenes. I just don't care that much about where the story will go. It's an interesting concept though.

Sunday evening was a viewing of The Room with commentary from Greg Sestero. Denny being a cat makes so much sense. After the film, we got a special preview of something coming next year. We were the only group who did as Greg had only seen it that day. We've been told not to talk about what it was, so I have to leave you all in suspense.

Music & Songwriting

I know I'm way behind on this, but this world is so strange. Why on earth do people think Avril Lavigne was replaced? I suppose, for the same reason people think the world is run by satanists or lizard people, but man this is ridiculous! I've seen a few versions including that Melissa murdered her and took over her life. I'm smdh over here. Some of it stems from her voice sounding different. I was an alto in high school and I'm a contralto now. Also, she's been through an illness. I doubt she was practising a lot during that time.

Choir went well. We decided to cut one song and save it for another performance someday, so that we could focus more on the others.

Reading & Writing

I didn't hit my reading target this week, but I'm OK with it. I had a lot going on. I'm looking forward to getting a dedicated reading area set up. I want to get a lot more reading done in 2025.

The Gauntlet That Was October

I had a lot of things happen in October. I watched Frankenstein in the cemetery with friends. I had tea with a friend. I started a new sport: curling. This is really fun and I'm enjoying the level of activity it provides and all the strategic elements. I'll do a separate post on it soon. Unfortunately, soon after my first game, I came down with Covid and so did the friend who I had tea with, so I think we both caught it at the place we went to. That wasn't fun. I already posted about that. I was fortunate to be free of it in time to attend Can-Con where I took in lots of panels, saw some of the wonderful writer community, bought many new books, and volunteered to help out in the rooms. The following weekend, I went to the livestream for Danielle Allard's new album release, followed by the in person release. As part of this, she has a 6 video series that releases every Sunday on her YouTube at 1:15 PM EDT. Video number 2, Falling Into Place, is one that I feel fortunate ...

Frisky Friday - Maple Syrup Porn

[caption id="attachment_10523" align="alignright" width="300"] Image created using Bitmoji[/caption] While delving into some Canadian film history this week, I learned that there is a thing called Maple Syrup Porn. I laughed when I read the term. I thought, "Is our adult film industry really called Maple Syrup Porn?" It's not. Some is Canadian, but it mostly refers to getting around censorship of sex. It was not only common in Quebec due to religion, but several places in the US. You can read more about it here . If you're looking to heat things up this weekend, consider a sweet old film from the early days of the sexual revolution. Maybe even drizzle a little syrup on your partner ;) Guid cheerio the nou, R~

2024 - Week 5

It was still January for most of this week, a.k.a. The Neverending Month. Then it became February!  Each month, I do pull a card from my Music Oracles deck. Last month was Bob Marley. February's card is Nina Simone. A piano playing rebel & multiple genre legend will hopefully make for a phenomenal month ahead. I still haven't done a goals post for 2024. January was a lot. My goals for this year are: - Complete Sparker  and query agents. - Complete The Curse of...  and submit it to a screenplay contest. - Complete the declutter of Tiny Condo. - Blog at least once per week. - Cross train for curling and softball. - Learn piano. - Self-care with crafts, reading, gaming, and sports. I've tweaked my schedule to make this happen. I'd also like a partner, but I feel weird about setting it as a goal.
