2024 - Week 38

Arts & Crafts

This week, I put together a JM Bricklayer Orchid plant. It's pretty cute. I recently decided regular plant care is not something I'm into, but I like the colour they add, so I thought some cute fake ones are a good idea.

I also assembled an owl made of flowers.

Decluttering & Minimalism

I'm super unmotivated on this right now. This, I suspect, is due to having had a busy summer and wanting to just catch my breath. I have made a list of all the home projects I want to get done this fall once the cooler weather has arrived.

I've updated my Trello to-do list. It had been a while, so this was sorely needed. It felt good to scratch some items off the list. I moved some outstanding items to a fresh action card and closed off the others. Sometimes a digital declutter is necessary.

Gaming & Streaming

I thought about getting back to streaming this weekend, but it would've been forced and rushed. And there's no reason I need to rush to get back to it.

Goal Setting & Tracking

Arts & Crafts: Assemble orchid. (100%)
Decluttering & Minimalism: Set specific home project goals. (100%)
Gaming & Streaming: No goals for this week.
Lifestyle & Sports: Curling meet up and OQSL Banquet (100%)
Music & Songwriting: Listen to 2-3 artists daily. (100%)
Reading & Writing: Complete the Atwood book and return it. (100%)

Lifestyle & Sports

This week I attended the first curling event of the season with Rainbow Rockers. My plan is to spare this year to continue learning and to get to know more people. I found it a bit heavy to be in multiple leagues last year. Getting Started League Level 2 begins on October 1st. Next week I'll get my gear out and ensure my grippers are clean and ready for the new season.

Saturday was the banquet for softball. It was so nice to celebrate with my team and other friends around the league. I won the Most Improved Peach (Player) award. I started the season unable to play, but came anyway to cheer my team on and help out when I could. By the end of the season, I was hitting regularly, making some good catches at home plate, and I even got some runs. I'm proud of what I accomplished and I loved being on a team that was so full of heart.

Yes, my friends have made fun of me for the silly look on my face.

Music & Songwriting

I have resubscribed to Fender Play in the ukulele path. Now that softball is pretty much done, I have been setting myself up for the new season. I'm going to start back at the beginning because I don't remember any of it and concentrated repetition is helpful with learning anything.

Reading & Writing

With softball over and the weather cooling, my brain feels like it can focus on my projects more. I think I need to try and outline the rest of my screenplay to move it forward. I really don't know what I want to do or say currently. I only have a vague idea that is mostly shrouded in murkyness. It's quite frustrating. This may be a time for tools like Rory's Story Cubes and the Writer Emergency Pack cards.

The Gauntlet That Was October

I had a lot of things happen in October. I watched Frankenstein in the cemetery with friends. I had tea with a friend. I started a new sport: curling. This is really fun and I'm enjoying the level of activity it provides and all the strategic elements. I'll do a separate post on it soon. Unfortunately, soon after my first game, I came down with Covid and so did the friend who I had tea with, so I think we both caught it at the place we went to. That wasn't fun. I already posted about that. I was fortunate to be free of it in time to attend Can-Con where I took in lots of panels, saw some of the wonderful writer community, bought many new books, and volunteered to help out in the rooms. The following weekend, I went to the livestream for Danielle Allard's new album release, followed by the in person release. As part of this, she has a 6 video series that releases every Sunday on her YouTube at 1:15 PM EDT. Video number 2, Falling Into Place, is one that I feel fortunate ...

Frisky Friday - Maple Syrup Porn

[caption id="attachment_10523" align="alignright" width="300"] Image created using Bitmoji[/caption] While delving into some Canadian film history this week, I learned that there is a thing called Maple Syrup Porn. I laughed when I read the term. I thought, "Is our adult film industry really called Maple Syrup Porn?" It's not. Some is Canadian, but it mostly refers to getting around censorship of sex. It was not only common in Quebec due to religion, but several places in the US. You can read more about it here . If you're looking to heat things up this weekend, consider a sweet old film from the early days of the sexual revolution. Maybe even drizzle a little syrup on your partner ;) Guid cheerio the nou, R~

2024 - Week 5

It was still January for most of this week, a.k.a. The Neverending Month. Then it became February!  Each month, I do pull a card from my Music Oracles deck. Last month was Bob Marley. February's card is Nina Simone. A piano playing rebel & multiple genre legend will hopefully make for a phenomenal month ahead. I still haven't done a goals post for 2024. January was a lot. My goals for this year are: - Complete Sparker  and query agents. - Complete The Curse of...  and submit it to a screenplay contest. - Complete the declutter of Tiny Condo. - Blog at least once per week. - Cross train for curling and softball. - Learn piano. - Self-care with crafts, reading, gaming, and sports. I've tweaked my schedule to make this happen. I'd also like a partner, but I feel weird about setting it as a goal.
