2024 - Week 33

Arts & Crafts

On Monday, I was able to get a large chunk of my cape done. I worked on it again on Wednesday as Tuesday was a driving day. On Friday, I accepted that the liner fabric just wasn't working. I pulled it out. I had other costume work to do and only a week to do it in plus getting my makeup together and a prop. There just wasn't time to fudge around with it anymore.

A trip to Michaels was in order on Saturday for modeling clay, wide white ribbon, and felt, glitter glue, stencils and fabric markers. Then I finished a large chunk of my costume prep including a number for my back that is meaningful for the character that I am crossplaying:

Of course, it absolutely needed glitter glue. There will be more added after I sew it onto the shirt.

I made pieces for the ring, but I didn't like the "nut" or the "glue" portion, so I decided I would make a necklace with the five power stones and eventually add the others to it. They could be separated with the light grey beads I was making.

I actually only ended up making this first bead because I had leftover grey from making the nut. I think the nut really needed a mold to come out properly, but I couldn't see actually wearing the ring anyway as the size of the nut was just too big to be comfortable. The white "glue" part will become a rock with lettering or something for a future project.

At any rate, I really enjoyed working with the clay and I think I'll be making more things with it in the future. A very long time ago, I mare a shark model out of plasticine for an elementary school project. I think it's been that long since I played with clay.

Decluttering & Minimalism

My goal for this week was to clean up my craft room. I've had the wrong chair in it. It's too big for the space and was blocking access to my music books. I also wanted to relocate the rug because I don't want to get paint and other messy substances on it. I didn't get too far on this because I was focused on my costume and I'm OK with that. I got started and will do a bit at a time on it next week.

Gaming & Streaming

I obviously needed to get my gear back in Minecraft. I also needed to tweak the path to my eventual castle to be two wide instead of three wide to match the extra tall double doors I would be installing someday. I hoped that wouldn't be a huge pain in the butt to accomplish. It went mostly well, though I have a short side to figure out.

The first attempt to get my gear was a fail, but then we figured out I could get my grave in creative mode. I'm now putting soulbound on any gear that is special. I'll be leaving my armour at home in the future. Or in my backpack rather than my main inventory, so it doesn't automatically equip it and suffocate me in space.

I worked on my bee meadow. I moved a lot of bees over to it once I got my silktouch axe back.

Goal Setting & Tracking

Arts & Crafts: My costume for Drag & Balls. [75%]
Decluttering & Minimalism: Clean my craft area. [10%]
Gaming & Streaming: Get my gear back in Minecraft. [100%]
Lifestyle & Sports: Softball double header. [100%]
Reading & Writing: Write 5 new pages on my screenplay. [0%]

Lifestyle & Sports

The drive back to Ottawa on Tuesday was smooth until I arrived back in town at 1:55PM. About 20 minutes prior, a tanker truck carrying diesel fuel crashed into a concrete barrier. This added an hour to the trip as I moved just inches at a time until I eventually got to my area of the city. Before going home, I stopped for some food. As I started eating, our fire alarm went off and I had to take my late lunch on the concrete planter box outside.

Wednesday was tough as I couldn't sleep past 3:30 AM for some idiotic reason. I wrote out a large to-do list and did some reading.

The next day I awoke at 5:00 AM. I skipped Zumba on Thursday because I had a double header at softball on Friday. I instead got groceries as those were critical to living.

On Friday morning, it was a 6:00 AM wake up, which was much more normal for me though I had been falling asleep by 9:30 PM for several days. Luckily, I was able to find my clip-on sunglasses for the softball double header. They had been missing since pinball the week before. All because I didn't put them back in their case. I was worried I'd get clocked in the head by the ball like another catcher did a couple of weeks ago because they couldn't see the ball.

The games were wild for me. I scored two runs in each, got on base nearly every time, and even caught a foul ball at home. I had been struggling to do anything for much of the season, so I was very happy to be a help to my team.

Saturday's plan was to work on the house, do some writing, and my costume before heading out to the last local roller derby game of the season. I did a lot of costume work and enjoyed the last derby games. Roc City tried to ride the Ottawa Rapids and sunk. The home team I was cheering for, The Valley Cats, also won their game.

I've been thoroughly exhausted ever since my trip to North Bay. Hopefully Ottawa's Pride Week will re-energize me!

Movies & Television

On Monday, I saw Deadpool & Wolverine with my brother. I highly recommend seeing it. It was full of hilarious moments and there were also some tender parts. Even when I'm fatigued from super hero movies, I enjoy the Deadpool ones.

Music & Songwriting

I wrote song lyrics while I was at game night. I'm a gnomish bard that does martial arts.

Reading & Writing

I made progress on reading The Chatelaine by Kate Heartfield.

I didn't rewrite the scene yet, but I have a new plan for one of the deaths in my screenplay. It's horror, so deaths need to happen. As soon as I can catch my breath, I'll get it done.

The Gauntlet That Was October

I had a lot of things happen in October. I watched Frankenstein in the cemetery with friends. I had tea with a friend. I started a new sport: curling. This is really fun and I'm enjoying the level of activity it provides and all the strategic elements. I'll do a separate post on it soon. Unfortunately, soon after my first game, I came down with Covid and so did the friend who I had tea with, so I think we both caught it at the place we went to. That wasn't fun. I already posted about that. I was fortunate to be free of it in time to attend Can-Con where I took in lots of panels, saw some of the wonderful writer community, bought many new books, and volunteered to help out in the rooms. The following weekend, I went to the livestream for Danielle Allard's new album release, followed by the in person release. As part of this, she has a 6 video series that releases every Sunday on her YouTube at 1:15 PM EDT. Video number 2, Falling Into Place, is one that I feel fortunate

Frisky Friday - Maple Syrup Porn

[caption id="attachment_10523" align="alignright" width="300"] Image created using Bitmoji[/caption] While delving into some Canadian film history this week, I learned that there is a thing called Maple Syrup Porn. I laughed when I read the term. I thought, "Is our adult film industry really called Maple Syrup Porn?" It's not. Some is Canadian, but it mostly refers to getting around censorship of sex. It was not only common in Quebec due to religion, but several places in the US. You can read more about it here . If you're looking to heat things up this weekend, consider a sweet old film from the early days of the sexual revolution. Maybe even drizzle a little syrup on your partner ;) Guid cheerio the nou, R~

On Edge - ROW80 R1-16

This sounds superstitious, but the fact that this is Leap Year has me on edge. Why? The last two have been rather difficult for me. In 2012, my work place was being divested and I was working multiple job roles because of all the people who had left. My marriage also ended. This led to a major life change, which included moving to Ottawa. I love Ottawa, so at least that worked out. The rest was hard. In 2016, I was restructured out of my job. This led to me floating about for a while on EI as I tried to figure out my future, trying some things like Copywriting out, and going back to school for screenwriting. After school, it took time to find work and I almost lost my home and car in the process. Scary stuff. It's now 2020 and I have a full-time permanent job again, but I'm filling multiple job roles because we're short-handed. We're also so far into year end that it's hard to train the person who is learning to be me for one of those roles. I'm just hopin
