Change is in the Air

I've been making a lot of changes lately around my home and some of them might seem a little odd, but they're making me happy. One thing I've done is taken apart my dining table. I never eat in there or have people over to eat. It was just another horizontal surface that would collect things like receipts, odd screws from various projects, and countless piles of paper. I had been frustrated because of the clutter it encouraged, but also because I didn't have a space for my Yamaha keyboard. I had been trying to use my keyboard in the living room, but it felt too cluttered and it wasn't sitting at the right height. With it now in my dining room, I was able to relocate my storage bench, which happens to be the perfect height to sit at while playing my keyboard. I now have much more breathing room. There is still a lot of mess to handle here yet, but I'm making solid progress. A lot of people suggest the bedroom is the place to start when decluttering, but I haven't found that to work for me. It may be because it's the only room I have that I can close the door on and hide a messy area. The rest of my place, except the bathroom, is open concept, so I have to forge my own path that goes against what some gurus say.

I made a change in the way I do something at work. The aim was to make it easier for others to verify some information I need verified. It ended up being easier for me to compile the data as well! As my dad would say, I love it when a plan comes together.

Speaking of planning, my new Labon Filofax a5 planner came on the weekend and I've been busily planning my life. Actually, I wasn't sure I would like it because there are some odd things about the way the system works for how I like my planner setup, but I'm enjoying it. It was during a planning session that I looked up and realized I really don't need a dining table at this time. In decluttering my mind, the solutions for decluttering my home seem to be flowing to me more easily.

Another change is happening soon as I recently joined a D&D group. I haven't roleplayed since the 1990s when I was in high school. I'm a little anxious about it. I'm worried I'll come off like a fool, but I'm also immensely excited about it. I have been wanting to get back into roleplaying for years now, but schedules were impossible.

I'm continuing on my spiritual path. Right now I'm looking into Heathenry. Why? My great grandmother was from Sweden, so I feel like there might be something there for me. Apparently, atheism is not that uncommon in this pagan path, which makes it even more interesting to me.

The move to this blog and the tweaking of my writing name is another change I've been wanting to make for quite some time. I spent a lot of time fighting with the editor interface in WordPress and I want to spend my time writing. I was trying to get a look like this on the old blog, but couldn't get it to remember any settings. Themes and colour changes seem easier on Blogger. On the name, I wanted to distance my private life from my public one a little more. I also wanted to shorten it because a lifetime of experience has taught me that most people can't spell my first name. An easier to type in URL is a really good thing. The only trouble is that I haven't gotten the migration working yet. I've manually moved a couple. I'm hoping not to need to do that for the rest, though there is some benefit to doing that with some items like my poems as I'll be structuring things a little different here.

For a quick goals update, I haven't gotten a lot of writing done yet, but I have structured my week for daily writing. I'll be alternating days between my novel and my screenplay as I found endless days on one project got to me last year. One is in editing and the other is being written. Elsewise, I thoroughly enjoyed the return to martial arts on the weekend despite how grueling it was.

All said, I feel like my vision is clearer and like I'm finally on the right path for me. There's more work ahead, but I will all be worth it.

  1. Congrats on the D&D group! It's one of the highlights of my week and I hope it is for you too! As for decluttering, the advice that works best for me is to start with the kitchen sink. If that's clean it's easier to get water for washing the floor or to keep up with dishes or to wash hands to keep from getting sick. It somehow works together to make the whole decluttering better for me. That being said, everyone has something that works best for them, and I hope you find the one that does for you!

    1. The kitchen sink makes a lot more sense than the bedroom! I have read that doing dishes is one of the most important chores to keep up on. Partly for health reasons. I guess it also affects one's cooking/eating habits, but that's a really good point about making it easier to clean other parts of the home!

    1. Somehow over the holidays, I found my way through whatever was holding me back. I wish I could explain it. I was so stuck before and now I'm able to work on my goals. I think it's because I got back into using a planner, which has helped declutter my mind and left me with more energy overall.

The Gauntlet That Was October

I had a lot of things happen in October. I watched Frankenstein in the cemetery with friends. I had tea with a friend. I started a new sport: curling. This is really fun and I'm enjoying the level of activity it provides and all the strategic elements. I'll do a separate post on it soon. Unfortunately, soon after my first game, I came down with Covid and so did the friend who I had tea with, so I think we both caught it at the place we went to. That wasn't fun. I already posted about that. I was fortunate to be free of it in time to attend Can-Con where I took in lots of panels, saw some of the wonderful writer community, bought many new books, and volunteered to help out in the rooms. The following weekend, I went to the livestream for Danielle Allard's new album release, followed by the in person release. As part of this, she has a 6 video series that releases every Sunday on her YouTube at 1:15 PM EDT. Video number 2, Falling Into Place, is one that I feel fortunate

2023 - Week 40

I felt a touch rough on Monday. After exchanging some shoes, I needed electrolytes. The heat with the egg thing made me a bit nauseus. I had lots of fluids before having noodles for dinner. That made me feel better. When Tuesday came about, I was looking forward to what I might be learning at GSL curling in the evening. I was also excited to being on the ice as a break from the unseasonal heat. It's spooky season! It's supposed to be a cool and cuddly time. We should be wearing hoodies (or bunny hugs if you prefer). Instead, I was sweating in jeans as I simply walked from my condo building to my car. Wednesday's plan was streaming, but I also hoped to fit an exchange at Home Depot in as I got the wrong shelf size for a project. Really, my original plan for something didn't work, so I was choosing to go a different way. I did stream, but I didn't get to Home Depot. Thursday featured work followed by packing for my spooky weekend away with friends. I got my oil and my

The PWHL

I've gotten my season tickets for the inaugural season of the Professional Women's Hockey League. I had put my deposit down as soon as it was open. Am I a hockey superfan? No. I enjoy hockey. I started watching it quite a lot during my divorce. I also used to practice my slapshot against the foundation of our house when I was an angst-filled teen. I care about women in sport having amazing opportunities like this. Anyway, some people in the comments section on the posts are truly something. The league posted the schedule, which was more of a calendar without time blocks listed. They happened to post that on the day that priority purchasing was opened for the season tickets.  So then there are a bunch of people who didn't put deposits down that were complaining they can't buy tickets yet. Makes total sense 😒 And then there were a bunch of other people complaining that nothing has been announced on the streaming and televisation of the games. Some were even suggesting th
